jerez local area . . .

JEREZ DETAILS | JEREZ LOCAL AREA | JEREZ WEATHER | JEREZ HOTELS

Jerez is located in the region of southern Spain known as Andalucia. This area is blessed with beautiful weather, and 17% of the region is taken up by national parks (two are within easy reach of Jerez). Jerez itself is a small city with a population of 180,000, and with its wide streets and squares, and a partially restored 11th century Moorish fortress, the city has an aristocratic flavour about it. Jerez is known the world over as a producer of fine sherry & brandy (the Spanish word for sherry is Jerez) and there are several ‘bodegas’ (sherry producers) you can visit. Jerez is also known as the birthplace of Flamenco dancing, and you can watch demonstrations of this at traditional ‘Tablao’ throughout the region.

The world-famous ‘Dancing Horses’ are also bred & trained specifically for dressage in the local area, and regular demonstrations take place in Jerez. For atmosphere, the circuit itself and the nearby city is hard to beat – its no accident that Jerez the best attended Moto GP every year! If that’s not enough, there are sandy beaches just 10 miles away, and nearby Cadiz & Seville are steeped in history and well worth a visit.
